The Ixtépete Archaeological Site is located in the middle of the Metropolitan Area south of the municipality of Zapopan, 30 meters from the intersection of Avenida Mariano Otero and Periférico. Although its main base - a pyramidal structure in which it is believed there were ceremonial constructions - resembles the Pyramid of the Sun in shape, its construction dates back to the years 650 and 750 AD. and it is after the great apogee of the Teotihuacan culture.
The buildings that make it up are at least 7, superimposed with a time span of 52 years between each of them. It is one of the most representative constructions of the Grillo Tradition that lived between 450 and 900 AD. Currently, the municipality of Zapopan keeps the site open to the public and has acquired the land where the most important buildings of the archaeological complex are located and is working together with the INAH on its rescue plan.
